Nice and sympathic hostal, perfect situation

We first went in front (la casa cuencana) but were very disapointed and couldn't sleep, so we tried this small hostal for another night and we really loved it. The owner is very sympathic and helpfull as well as the two girls working there. The rooms are big and very clean. The beds confortable. They clean the rooms every day. There is a nice terrace on the second floor and the wi-fi works very well. All that for 10 $/pers/night ! Really great !

Good location but otherwise just ok

Stayed for 4 nights as a family of 3.
PROS
Good location. Easy to walk to sights. Close to parque de la madre.
Comfy beds.
Pleasant staff.
Nice little roof terrace.
Some hot water.
Had a kitchen.
CONS
It's cold!! Rooms felt damp and cold.
Rooms are dark with no outside window.
Hot water is not consistent.
Kitchen has very limited equipment. There is a cupboard full of equipment but we were told we could not use those ones.
Kitchen hob nearly always in use by staff. If the hostel was busy it would be hard for many people to cook at once.
Wifi weak in kitchen
No real comfy common area for socialising, only a kitchen table with 3 chairs.

Keep on looking for another place

We went there because of the good reviews on internet and also because it has a kitchen that we were supposed to be able to use.
When we arrived, the kid (more of a teenager), apparently the son of the owner was not very welcoming. He checked us into a room where we couldn't get the wifi. After seeing it did bother me a little, he proposed to change us to another room where we could get it.
On the pictures, there was a kitchen supposedly accessible to the customers. When I asked where it was, the kid seemed like he didn't want us to use it and came up with a lame excuse like they were renovating it. It's the kitchen the family uses too. His excuse was false, there was no renovation at all. The day after, I asked when the kitchen was gonna be ok to use and I was told it was ok to use it.
EVERY SINGLE TIME we set foot in the kitchen, someone from the family, either the mother or the kid, would come in the kitchen to check on us and see what we were doing.
We felt like we were going to rob them of something or maybe steal their food. We HATED that so much.
Also, they have a sign saying that the kitchen closes at 7pm. 7pm, for us, it's the time when we start thinking about having dinner.
Also, this pnace was cold all the time.
Just don't go there, there are so many places around that you can avoid this place.

Comfy room, great location, great wifi

We recently stayed in this hostel in Cuenca and had an amazing stay. Our private room was really spacious and cosy, the bed was so comfy. The wifi was really fast and reliable and there is a kitchen where you can cook your own meals. There's a roof terrace which is a great spot in the sun. The location is really convenient and the hostel is really clean, great value for the price.

charming hostal

My sister and I stayed three nights at this very clean, comfortable, highly affordable hostal in July 2017. The owner was particularly kind, helpful and friendly; he is also fluent in English. There was hot water in the shower and I really appreciated the space for toiletries under the sink. :) It was quite cold while we were there, but I don't imagine other hostals would've felt much different. They readily provided extra blankets. If you're a light sleeper, use a white noise app or ear plugs as the walls are very thin.The location was a quick walk to the town centre and there were abundant good restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity.
