Location offered accesibility to U-bahn, Trains with a tram stop outside the door. The layout and offerings were good. Felt more intiment then other hostels. Common areas were on the ground floor.
The biggest drawback, was the creaking floors. I'm not a light sleeper and the noise level of people entering their room and using the common bathroom was very disruptive.

Perfect location - will stay here again!

The Old Town Hostel is all in all a great place to stay. Friendly staff, rooms are great, my daughter loved the different color lights in our room facing the street. Very spacious.
There are enough bathrooms for everyone, we never had to wait for one.
Bathrooms are overall nice and clean, however one morning we came into a bathroom immediately after it had been cleaned, and the shower floor was full of hair (a major pet peeve of mine). All of the showers on our floor had clogged drains, so we kept showering to a minimum.
When we checked in, we asked for ear plugs, which proved very useful when on our second day there, a group of young people checked in on the same floor as us. In general the hostel is very loud, the sound of doors closing and people talking travels far, so when a group of young people starts running around, shouting and screaming and slamming doors, not even the ear plugs could keep out the noise. However, this was expected in a hostel, so we managed and luckily from approx. 1:00-7:00 they were quiet enough for us to get some sleep.
Location is great - Tram 12 is just across the street and will take you to Nordbahnhof where you can change to e.g. M10 which will take you to Hauptbahnhof. Or you can go to Friedrichstrasse in the city center.
Just across the street from the hostel there's a café called Butter - they have a nice breakfast menu with pancakes and croissant. Also, very close further down the street there's a Vietnamese restaurant called Golden Tiger, which is very nice. Big plates full of delicious food - recommendable!
So basically, apart from the noise and the clogged drains, this was a very good hostel. Price is very fair. Location is perfect.
And I would definitely stay here if ever in Berlin again.
