good accommodation

We stayed one night at Arnastapi during a tour in Iceland. Hotel made of two series of rooms in two low buildings. We had a room on the side facing the ocean with a large floor-to-ceiling window. Spacious room, with space for suitcases, a fairly comfortable bed, a bathroom less small than in other places in Iceland. Clean and with all essential services. I found it to be comfortable accommodation.

Fine stay in a nice hotel with extras in the area

We slept 1 night in this hotel on our tour and that was a good experience. The hotel is within walking distance of a few beautiful things to see like the Músagjá arch in the water. We first ate there We all craved fish and chips and they tasted excellent to us, then made the walk to the beautiful rock formations in the sea. The breakfast was also fine so a hotel that is definitely worth it.

FLEECING THEIR CUSTOMERS

I just got back from a great vacation in Iceland and discovered that the Arnarstapi Hotel had charged me for a Junior Family Suite (at EUR 650.57) when we stayed in a Twin Room (EUR 440.11). When I booked the room back in January -- seven months before my arrival -- I first booked the Junior Family Suite, but then hours later e-mailed to change the room to a Twin Room (there was no ability to change the reservation on-line). Now, the hotel is claiming that because I only asked to switch rooms rather than asking them explicitly to cancel and rebook, I was still charged for the Junior Family Suite. Why would I have e-mailed asking for a smaller room, but still agreed to pay the rate for the larger one? That is a semantic distinction without a difference and, if that is their policy, it is a crazy one. If I had made the change only weeks before our arrival and the hotel was unable to rebook the Junior Family Suite, I might understand, but they wound up having someone else reserve and pay for the Suite, which is why I titled this review "fleecing their customers". Also, when I e-mailed inquiring about the overcharge, I received very rude responses from an employee named Igor, who then would not give me the contact information for any of his supervisors when asked. We had dinner at Hotel Budir the evening we were in Snaefellsbaer. It was only a fifteen minute drive from Arnarstapi Hotel and I would definitely recommend staying there instead if you can.

Nice location, shame about the maintenance

The location is great, and the restaurant is also good, offering a nice variety for breakfast, and good menu choice for dinner. The room was comfortable and warm, and enough room to move around. However, I reported that my shower was very slow to drain (they offered me a nicer coffee at breakfast for the inconvenience) and asked for it to be fixed so I could comfortably shower without having grey water at my feet...but nothing was done about it. For context, the shower was on for less than 10 seconds before the base started to fill. Not happy.

The room is pretty drab and a little bit of money would go a long way — nicer chairs (maybe not black plastic), a bit more furnishings, maybe the utensils are in a utensil holder in the drawer instead of a little bowl that holds all of the utensils in a mess.
Overall it's quite a nice place it just needs someone to care about the design & experience a bit more!
